This book really has rekindled my interest in Urban Fantasy. Such a great story packed into the cutest little paperback I ever saw!
In this world. there are mystics. persons with abilities; based on the elements. The humans are wary of them, which they should be, and there is a controlling agency which polices them. The main character is a Fire Mystic working in conjunction with Mystic Investigative Division. As a branch of the Enclave, a worldwide mystic organization, investigating mystic related crimes. Things are going well until another mystic turns up dead, drowned and burnt from the waist down. As he is a water mystic, this is very strange and the clues left at this and subsequent crime scenes all seem to point to Ava. Someone is setting her up to take the fall and Ava is not about to stand by and let this happen. She is going to use all her contacts and skills to get to the bottom of this. Little does she know how close to home it will hit and the implications it will have for here also.
What a ride! I really loved this book and my only qualm with it. is the length, I wanted more and could easily have read another 500 pages. Ava’s character is just bad-ass and awesome. She is flawed and so relatable and her elemental powers are strong and controlled.
The plot is fast-paced and action packed with lots of conflict, suspense and intrigue.
All in all. an engaging urban fantasy with cool elemental magic and a bad-ass heroine who is not afraid to put her life on the line to do what’s right. I absolutely loved it and I recommend it for lovers of urban fantasy.
